The Idyllwild Garden Club

garden club

Develop your gardening talents, create appealing landscape designs, help beautify our community, learn horticultural techniques,  discover new gardening interests,  support  area-wide conservation projects, share your gardening experiences.

Meetings are held at noon on the first Tuesday of the month, March-December at the Idyllwild Nature Center, one mile northwest of Idyllwild on Hwy 243.

Beautification

IGC plays a major role in  community beautification.  The Club helped to establish and continues to assist in the expansion & upkeep of the original gardens at the Idyllwild Area Historical Society.  The Idyllwild downtown area has benefited by the installation & care of colorful “whiskey barrel” planters by IGC volunteers.  Other landscape  maintenance projects include the  local newspaper & Town Hall buildings and design/care of the landscaping for Idyllwild's town entry signs.

Conservation

IGC supports & teaches the principles of gardening with native plants to achieve reduction in water usage, lower  maintenance, reduce pesticides, invite the return of wildlife and support local ecology.

Education

IGC provides a monthly series of programs led by well known speakers and experts in a wide range of horticultural topics.  The Club seeks to increase member knowledge and skills in garden design, appropriate plant selection for our area, soil science, permaculture gardening, plant cultivation and propagation techniques.

Youth/Junior Garden

IGC is the proud sponsor of the Idyllwild School Junior Garden Program.  Students learn the valuable principles of horticultural and real “hands-on” experience in planting &  maintaining three school-site gardens including a special native plant section.

Annually, IGC sponsors local student participation in the National Smokey Bear/Woody Owl Poster Contest.
